Frequently asked questions

Booking & scheduling

How do I book you?
Submit the inquiry form with your event details. Kieran will follow up personally within a few business days with availability and a custom quote.
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you have a date. Popular weekend dates fill first, and events booked more than 30 days out require a deposit to hold the slot.
Do I need to put down a deposit?
Yes, for events booked more than 30 days out: a 50% deposit secures the date, with the remainder due Net 14 from the event date.
What's your cancellation policy?
A 50% refund is available if you cancel more than 14 days before the event. No refund is available inside 14 days.
What payment methods do you accept?
Check or direct deposit. Card payments are accepted with a 3% processing surcharge.

Service area & travel

Do you travel outside Humboldt County?
Yes. The primary service area is Arcata, Eureka, Blue Lake, and surrounding areas. Travel beyond 30 miles from Arcata is billed at $0.65/mile round trip. Lodging-required events are priced case-by-case.

Services & equipment

What's the difference between Specht Staging Solutions and DJ R3$pecht — which do I book?
Specht Staging Solutions is for sound, lighting, and staging production, for venues, planners, bands, and other performers. DJ R3$pecht is for booking Kieran himself as a DJ. If you're not sure which fits, the inquiry form will help sort it out.
Do you bring your own equipment for DJ sets?
Yes. DJ R3$pecht packages include Kieran's own sound, lighting, and staging gear by default.
What's included in each package?
Inclusions vary by tier — see the Services & Pricing pages for exact details. Custom builds outside the standard packages are available on request.
Is your equipment insured?
Yes. All gear is covered under inland marine insurance in transit and at the venue.
Do you offer discounts for repeat bookings?
Yes. Standing client/loyalty rates are available for venues or clients with 3 or more confirmed bookings per quarter.
Do you supply power or generators for events?
Currently, Specht Live does not provide major power supplies for large-scale productions — all power must be supplied by the house or venue and agreed upon prior to the event. Smaller mobile audio package options are available, but must be confirmed in advance.

Overtime, outdoor events & setup

What if my event runs longer than scheduled?
For Specht Staging Solutions events, overtime is billed at a minimum base rate of $75/hour, plus additional rental cost for any supplied equipment kept in use (varies by package). For DJ R3$pecht events, overtime is billed at a base rate of $125/hour, added directly to the invoice.
Can you do outdoor events?
Yes, weather permitting, though indoor venues are recommended for the best-quality setup. Current equipment is semi water-resistant, not waterproof, so outdoor bookings must be discussed and arranged in advance. Full-scale production packages currently require house power. Smaller, condensed mobile rigs are available for outdoor use, but don't include the full production packages.
How much lead time do you need for setup and teardown?
Setup requires a minimum of 2 hours before showtime, including at least a 30-minute soundcheck before doors open. Setup time varies by package and should be scheduled ahead of the event. Teardown begins immediately after the event unless otherwise arranged and takes a minimum of about 1.5 hours, also varying by package. Additional hands can be supplied if needed, at the on-site engineer's discretion.
